Mouresi is one of the oldest villages of Pelion and is located 45km far from Volos through Portaria or 43km through Milies and at an altitude of 360m. It was the capital of the Municipality of the same name (Municipality of Mouresi) for 12 years, until the 31st. December 2010.
According to the Kallikratis plan, it has been united with the villages of the old municipality, Agios Dimitrios, Kissos, Mouresi, Tsagarada and Xourichti, developing a big united Municipallity of Kallikratis plan, the Municipality of Zagora-Mouresi, with Zagora as its capital, and including the villages that belonged until recently to the Municipality of Zagora.
The village is built in the south of the river bed of Kissos, having a view of Kissos, Agios Dimitrios, Agios Ioannis and the deep blue of the Aegean Sea, while its beach id the port of Damouchari. It remains unknown when and by whom has the village Mouresi been built. However, it must have existed a settlement in ancient times, since the ancient grave that was discovered in 1934 near to the church of Agia Paraskevi supports this probability.
The church of Agia Paraskevi was built in 1792, but the oldest church is that of Agia Triada, located at the square of Mouresi (Square of Konstantis Retsos), which is shaded by three high lime trees. In the church of Agia Triada, you will have to chance to admire its "slotted iconostasis".
In the old days, Mouresi was built on the coast of Damouchari and since 1600 and onwards approximately the residents begun to move at the area of the current village. From here you can walk in paths that lead to Tsagarada and Damouchari through the marvelous dense forest. Mouresi constitutes an ideal shelter for both winter and summer escapes due to its geographical place.
