A point of reference for Pelion, mainly during the winter, when the mountainous area is usually covered with snow, is the ski center of Pelion "Agriolefkes", which is located in a dense forest of beech trees at an altitude of 1,471m., i.e. relatively low for a ski resort. It is 27km from Volos and just 2km from the village Chania of Pelion, while the place where it is located constitutes the crossing from the west to the east Pelion.
The initiative of the development of Pelion's ski resort belongs to the Greek Mountaineering Club of Volos, and the first air lift operated in 1967. Since 1997 its management was undertaken by the Development Company of Volos (ΑΝΕΜ Α.Ε.).
The ongoing efforts for the skiers security are remarkable and make the ski resort of Pelion one of the safest ski resorts in Greece, characterized also by easy access and very good equipment in all fields.
One of its main features is the magnificent view offered to the visitors of on the one hand the Aegean Sea and on the other hand the Pagasitikos Gulf. Imagine how often would you have the chance to watch the skiers coming down the snowy slopes, having a view of the deep blue sea. In Pelion this is feasible, offering to the funs of skiing a unique experience...
There are 5 ski slopes in the ski resort "Agriolefkes" of Pelion of a total length of 15km, among which:
• 4 main ski slopes for descent skiing, approved by the International Ski Federation (FIS)
• 1 ski slope of Langlauf of a total length of 5km, with its main characteristic the nature surrounding it.
The ski resort provides also:
• 3 parking spaces for more than 800 vehicles
• Shelter
• Bar
• Restaurant
• Rentals / sales of ski equipment & snowboards
• Clinic.
There is also a ski and snowboard school, with special classes for children of 3-years-old and over, while the training is undertaken by experienced teachers.
A visit in the ski resort of Pelion does not pertain only to the funs of winter sports, but also to everyone who loves mountains in general, for they will have the chance to enjoy their strolls and see the magnificent landscape of the snowy Pelion.
The recently constructed road, leading to Kissos, contributes in accessing easily the ski resort also from the villages of the east Pelion, since one can arrives there passing only by Zagora.

Chania
After Portaria, the central road goes up markedly with many bends, that nevertheless offer a magnificent view of Volos and Pagasitikos gulf. As it is obvious by the name of the area, here there was not ever a village, but a few "chania" (i.e. a type of lodging) that were visited by passerby merchants who carried their commodities from the villages...
